Mr. Bhopinder Singh
 

Lt Gen. Bhopinder Singh, a highly decorated officer, retired from the Indian Army in 2006 after an illustrious career spanning 42 years. During his last assignment as Director General, Assam Rifles, the largest para military force, he worked extensively on Primary Health of the local populace in the fields of TB, Malaria and HIV/AIDS. Gen. Singh has been nominated as Civil Society member representing uniformed personnel in the Regional and Global task force of UNAIDS.

He is the co-founder of Maitri, a non profit organization engaged in developmental and humanitarian issues. Maitri is committed to facilitating citizenship rights, human rights, dignity and respect for the most vulnerable populations in India. Maitri works with migratory populations and on the issue of violence against women. Currently, he is the Director of Ageing Resource Centre in India.

With his vast experience in issues related to ageing, Gen. Singh, President of Maitri, is working closely with 500 elderly widows in Vrindavan. Maitri provides them with a nutritious mid day meal and wellness.
The widows access to healthcare includes cataract surgeries and cancer treatment. Maitri is currently in the process of constructing two old age homes for elderly women in Vrindavan.

Gen. Singh is the President of Aashirwad Senior Citizens Council under whose charter, they have established an old age home in Delhi. Aashirwad is actively working in policy formulation and advocacy for better pensions and geriatric healthcare.

Gen. Singh has a PhD in Public Health from Jodhpur National University and has been invited to give lectures on ageing in India on national and international platforms.
